Nights

Day 01 - Arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport / proceed to Kitulgala / Afternoon Birding / Overnight in Kitulgala.

Upon arrival, we head straight for the rainforests of Kitulgala. We’ll spend the afternoon searching for endemic birds in the lush canopy. Your first night is spent listening to the sounds of the Kelani River, fully immersing yourself in the wild from the start.

Day 02 - Birding in the Kitulgala area or the Kelani Valley Forest Reserve / Overnight in Kitulgala.

Spend a full day exploring the Kelani Valley Forest Reserve with a specialist birding guide.

We’ll look for rare residents like the Serendib Scops Owl and the Sri Lankan Hanging Parrot. It’s a day of deep focus and quiet observation in the heart of the jungle.

Day 03 - Short birding session in Kitulgala / Proceed to Sinharaja / Birding in the periphery of Sinharaja / Overnight in Sinharaja.

After a final morning session in Kitulgala, we journey to Sinharaja, our most famous rainforest. We’ll spend the evening exploring the forest periphery, where the biodiversity is incredibly high, spotting colourful birdlife as the sun begins to set.

Day 04 - Explore wildlife in Sinharaja Forest / Overnight stay in Sinharaja.

Under the prehistoric canopy, we’ll search for the famous “mixed-species bird flocks” and rare endemic reptiles. It is a day of raw nature, guided by experts who know every call and shadow of the forest.

Day 05 - Short birding session around the Lodge / Drive to Udawalawe / Afternoon jeep safari in Udawalawe National Park / Overnight in Udawalawe.

We transition from the dense rainforest to the open savanna of Udawalawe. The afternoon jeep safari is a highlight for elephant lovers, as herds of these gentle giants roam the grasslands. We’ll also look for raptors and water birds around the reservoir.

Day 06 - Morning jeep safari in Udawalawe National Park / Proceed to Nuwara Eliya / Birding in Victoria Park / Overnight in Nuwara Eliya.

After one last sunrise safari, we climb into the highlands. In Nuwara Eliya, we visit Victoria Park—a surprising haven for highland birds and Himalayan migrants. The air is chilly, and the birdlife is completely different from the lowlands.

Day 07 - Reach Horton Plains National Park at first light / Highland endemics / Hakgala Botanical Garden / Overnight in Nuwara Eliya.

We reach the high-altitude plateau of Horton Plains as the mist clears to look for endemics like the Ceylon Whistling Thrush. Later, we visit Hakgala Botanical Garden to spot highland birds among the exotic flora—a day of crisp air and high-altitude discovery.

Day 08 - Leave for Kandy / Tea Factory visit / Peradeniya Botanical Garden / Temple of the Tooth / Overnight in Kandy.

As we descend toward Kandy, we stop to see how tea is made. In the hill capital, we visit the massive Peradeniya Botanical Gardens—home to a giant colony of fruit bats—and the sacred Temple of the Tooth, balancing wildlife with our deep cultural roots.

Day 09 - Visit Udawattakele Forest Reserve / Relax time at the hotel / Overnight in Kandy.

We visit the “Royal Forest Sanctuary” of Udawattakele, a historic woodland located right above the Kandy palace. It’s a peaceful spot for one last birding session before enjoying some free time at your hotel to reflect on your journey.

Day 10 - Morning at leisure / Transfer to Colombo / Quick city drive / Airport drop-off.

After a final breakfast in the hills, we head back toward the capital. If time permits, we’ll take a quick drive through Colombo for some city sights before your departure, concluding a journey that took you into the very soul of the island’s wilderness.
